Onion slicer- a solid addition to my kitchen
This tool is genuinely useful. Sliding the tines into a whole onion takes a firm, steady push— but the payoff is good control. I cut the onions whole with the holder in place, then pop them off and halve it after. It’s quicker and easier than trying to slice pre-cut halves. It even works on oversized onions- you just lose the cut lines. Same-size onions can bow the outer blades slightly during use—nothing that causes damage though. It does leave holes in the onion slices.This thing has a lot of pointy metal fingers. They work great for gripping an onion, but if you store it loose in a drawer, expect a surprise poke every now and again when you reach in. A dedicated slot solves that—no big deal.I tried it on a red bell pepper just to see how it’d do. I got about 2/3 through before the pepper couldn’t hold up any more and had to be removed. More trouble than it’s worth—stick to onions and solid vegetables. Cleanup is no issue (dishwasher safe, or a quick scrub). The handle is slim and comfortable. If you slice or dice a lot of onions and dislike the slip-and-slide routine, this is a solid, inexpensive option.
