Attractive small painted metal trinket box. Looks great but worry about peeling paint.
This is such a pretty small painted and textured trinket box. It is available in different bird breeds – I chose the hummingbird for its colorful body. This bird trinket box will look equally good whether you decide to sit it on top a bedroom dresser or instead place it on a living room end table instead. Molded from a zinc alloy, the metal on its base, which is not painted, has a brass colored look to it. The trinket box comes inside a very nice gold – orange toned colored box, completely ready for gifting.The rest of the hummingbird is fully painted. Its wings then are partially covered with small green rhinestones, adding a bit of sparkle and iridescence to the bird. The interior of the trinket box has been painted as well in a dark orange color. While the paint job looks quite realistic and of high quality presently, I do worry about paint peeling off over time since this box is of metal, not china or wood. There is already, along the edges where paint colors change, tiny specks of metal where there is no paint. Whether that is due to the artist painting it missing a spot, or because tiny specks of paint have already flaked off, I do not know. At the moment, those spots are not easily noticeable. I do think though that the more this trinket box is handled, or exposed to dampness, the chance of noticeable paint loss becomes a greater possibility.This hummingbird trinket box opens up fully, giving you plenty of access to its interior storage space. When fully opened out , the bird is not weighted to keep it standing solidly on its base. Instead it does tip over onto its side. Realistically, most people wanting to add something inside its storage area, will likely just lift the lid halfway to place something inside. I ended up resting the bird inside its gift box lid to photograph its interior, adding a quarter to the box, so you can better judge how much space is available – but this trinket box is not tall enough to fully close its lid with a quarter inside of it. The box is held closed with two tiny magnets, placed opposite its hinge.
