There’s a long learning curve, so lots of practice. Great tool for artists.
As with anything in this type of purchase, there is a long learning curve. This is not something you’re gonna take out of the package and cut your perfect mat first time. You need to expect to learn how to do it. Then do it for a while in order to master it. Once you have mastered it this thing is very useful and works fantastically. Then you will save money, cutting your own mats for your picture frames and art. I highly recommend this for serious artists. Artist really should be doing their own frame work to save money and have their profits more profitable. The cut accuracy is fine once you learn the overcut.. mark your own line with a permanent construction marker so that it doesn’t wipe off. Their line (or dot) is off from an artist perspective. This also relates to what I talked about in the beginning about learning how to use it and to take time and you will learn how to do it. The product itself works and gets the job done. For the price, I definitely recommend it. Especially if you need to cut large mats like I do. The fancier mat cutters for large mats are way too out of my price range. This does the job once you master how to use it. Plus the fancier ones take up a huge amount of space and this one is small enough and compact so easy to store in a smaller studio or workshop.

Good product, affordable
Sturdy metal construction, easy to use with a straight edge (I use a 4’ level in my shop), makes a clean straight cut. One thing that would make sense for a beginner like me would be to have a way to use regular razor blades rather than the special blade refills. That said, I can’t see myself cutting enough mat board to need refills anytime soon.

I used it right away and felt a sense of pride and satisfaction in the results. It was very easy to use. So remember to measure and mark twice before you cut! Once you cut…it’s cut!!! Take your time, cut slowly especially when you get to the corners!

Fancat Bevel Mat Cutter with 5 Blades, 45° Push-Style Handheld Mat Board Cutter, Adjustable Blade Depth for Framing, Artwork, and Photo Displayhave always wanted to learn how to cut mats for artwork. well. still going to have to learn. while this does offer you the capability to cut mats properly angled, it doesnt really show you how. the instructions are woefully inadequate to this end. the tool itself is a nice anodized aluminum. all the bits and bobs while basically pretty simple do not feel cheap or poorly made. it comes with a starter pack of blades. sadly, there are adjustable parts, that to funciton properly you need to adjust using a few different sized alan wrnches. there is no included alan wrench. so out of the box you need to already provide some funcionality. this is suboptimal. adjustable parts should have the needed bits and bobs to adjust. the listing says ready to use out of the box. well, we are in disagreement on this point. the pics show an alan wrench. my sample did not include an alan wrench. perhaps this is a defect with the specific item i received, or perhaps it tis the whole line. i dont know. feels like i am 10% closer in knwing how and being able to cut my own mats.

I did have a more professional mat cutter, which I never used, so I sold it at a garage sale.I thought I’d try this mat cutter. Much much smaller so it takes up no space, and I’ll have one when I want to use one.I found this mat cutter was easier to use with my left hand without making any changes to the cutter or blade. I found straight lines were hard to come by. I found setting the cutter edges on the ruler worked best. The thicker the paper the harder to cut and have straight lines. Maybe I’m not patient enough but I didn’t rush the cutter.I’ll keep this cutter because of its size but I’ll have to practice more before I use it.

Came with the rail guide tabs installed but without a hex key to undo them, so using a normal ruler I am off my mark and it’s hard to line up.Otherwise, cuts smooth, make sure you have a scrap cardboard beneath it.
