The Shine is Deceiving
Sept 15, 2025We bought a set of 4 chafing dishes. We decided to try them for the first time for the Canelo/Crawford fight watch party. We received a lot of compliments and worked as expected. The following day we started our clean-up by washing the chafing dishes. After drying them, we noticed that one chafing water dish had scorching on the inside bottom. One of the other food chafing dishes was discolored. We were taken back that on the first use we already experienced what we considered defects. The discrepancies didn’t affect the food (we think) but these dishes are supposed to be stainless steel and quality stainless steel don’t discolor or scorch after one-time use. In reality, these dishes don’t appear to stainless steel but more like shiny chrome, although I have no way of knowing whether it’s stainless steel or not. As attractive as they are, we now question their longevity or even chemical safety.
