Easy to learn with good strategy elements, 2-4 players!
Within the past year I got into board games and over this year I have acquired a decent collection and have played a variety of games in terms of themes and difficulty. I’m pretty hooked! When Azul won the Spiel des Jahres in 2018 I “had” to buy it. I wanted to get in on a hot new game to understand why it’s well revered. Since buying it I’ve played about 12 games, mostly 2 players, but a few 4 player games and it’s a blast. The game revolves around picking up tiles and placing them to score points, that is the most simplistic explanation. The game start off slowly without much tension, but as your board fills up the game becomes pretty cutthroat as you try to force your opponent to take tiles that will cause them to lose points while mitigating the point loss on your own board. It requires thinking ahead and critical thinking. It’s a fantastic board game that takes 1 round to teach, and many rounds to develop a strategy. There are Youtube videos to learn the game easily, don’t be hesitant if you’re looking for pretty game that is suitable for the family that will help keep your brain sharp. Azul is well worth the price. My only issue with Azul is that there are some beautiful tile designs on the board game cover that are not available in the game. The plain red and blue tiles would benefit from having some beautiful designs like the cover indicates. Otherwise, I have no caveats with this game. The components are nice to hold and look at, and the game is fun to play.

Beautiful, easy to learn, and very fun!
I bought this as a birthday gift for a friend. We’ve only played it a few times so far with one of our other friends, but we all really enjoy it so far and see it as a great addition to the board games we love to play on a regular basis. The tiles are really gorgeous, well designed, and feel nice to place around the board and on the table. Games are also short enough that it helps you pick it up quickly and try out different approaches/strategies relatively quickly. I highly recommend it, I’m honestly thinking of buying myself a copy too!

    I enjoyed this game!
So I bought this game for my husband for Christmas and it came extremely late like in January so that was kind of sucky. But that doesn’t take away from the game itself it is actually a really fun game and I can see why it won awards. I played with my husband and my brother-in-law my brother-in-law wasn’t so interested in playing it. My husband was on the fence like yeah I could see how it would be fun and I’ll keep playing with you. And then there was me who was like oh my gosh this is actually really fun. It is a strategy game I was trying to just make sure like I could increase myself without sabotaging the other players but the other players were looking at my future stuff trying to sabotage me because well that’s the kind of people I was playing with. The instructions are kind of long and lengthy. But I looked for a how to play on YouTube and there are some really long ones and then there was some shorter ones and I found this one that was like only three or four minutes long it was just a really quick video of how to play just like the quick like you need to know this and I was able to pick up what I needed to do with that and then scan through the rule book. And I picked it up pretty fast.So basically there’s three routes The first round you have all of your tiles in the middle and on each little circle and when it’s your turn you can take either from the center or from one of the circles but if you take a color you have to take all of the colors and then you are going to fill them in onto your line. The first round is just going around in this until all of the tiles are played. once all the tiles are played you get to move on and the goal of collecting the tiles is to fill out your line you will see there is a shaded spot there’s a 5 4 3 2 1 spot. if you have successfully filled them in with all of one color the next round you will get a point. So the next round if you have fully filled out a line you get to move one of the pieces over to its corresponding spot. And as you do you get to take a point if there is any other one in the row or column you also get to take those points So if you move the blue piece over and then there’s already two others down vertically from it you get three points if there is one horizontal from it you also get another point but you get to count your first one twice cuz you count everything in the horizontal row you get those points and then everything in the vertical row and you get those points. Then from there whoever has the one player token gets to start the next round. And they randomly fill in all of the spots again. Then you play the first round again filling up the floor and then moving them over and you keep doing play one and play two until somebody gets a horizontal line all the way filled. Then you finish the game and you add up the rest of your points.it was a little confusing to start with but once I got the hang of it it was actually really quite fun because you have to strategically plan out when you are going to collect certain things. And kind of plan what your opponents are going to do because they might take what you’re looking for and then you might not be able to finish your row. I’m excited to keep playing this game. And don’t be intimidated by the long instructions it’s actually pretty simple once you get the hang of it.I hope my review has been helpful. If it has been helpful, please hit the helpful button.

    Plan, Steal, Repeat
Azul – Plan, Steal, RepeatI own three copies of this game at home, and all of them get used. I’ve hosted mini-tournaments with friends, and I play it online all the time. I also compete in the World Series of Boardgaming in Las Vegas every year, and Azul is always one of my four category picks. It’s that consistent. It looks peaceful, but it’s not. The tiles are beautiful, the rules are simple, and the game is quietly competitive. You’ll think you’re just arranging patterns until someone takes the exact tiles you needed.Setup is fast, and most games finish in under twenty minutes. Easy to learn, quick to play, and always engaging. It works with family, friends, or anyone who’s new to board games. The components are excellent — thick resin tiles, clear boards, and a layout that looks good no matter where you set it up. I played the Giant Title Version at Dice Tower West and it is so fun!

    Fun and different
Fun game. There is a bit of a learning curve the first time. Its a nice change in the typical game format

I like this game. We enjoy to play with family

  11. Anton

The strategy is pretty simple but this makes it very competitive as your all attempting the same scoring combos while blocking your opponents.Tiles and board and beautifully made and it’s enjoyable to both hold and play.

A good game for 4 people, involves strategy, luck and cunning. Quick to learn and good to play over a few sessions.
