How to Maximize the Life of Your Wool Blanket:
Triple Washed During Production
Every Arcturus wool blanket is triple-washed during production so you can use it right out of the box. However, at some point you’ll probably want to wash it.
Use a Woolen Detergent
We recommend using a detergent formulated specifically for wool for best results. Like all loom-woven blankets, this blanket will shed during the first few washes.
Wash Separately in Cold Water
To maximize the life of your blanket (and to avoid unnecessary shedding), we recommend washing your blanket by hand in cold water.
You may also machine wash your blanket separately in cold water on a delicate cycle using a front load washer. Avoid top loaders with a center agitator as they can cause damage and will increase shedding.
Line Dry Only
To extend the life of your blanket, we recommend line drying only. Dryers are hard on clothes and blankets alike, and line drying is much gentler.

Good quality, NORMAL wool scent, excellent value.
No odor whatsoever upon arrival. If you bury your nose in the blanket and REALLY REALLY sniff hard, you might catch a tiny bit of normal “wool scent.” Every wool blanket I have ever encounterd has the same scent. No biggie. It is genuine wool and smells no different than a wool sweater. No massive shedding, either. Maybe I got lucky and got a “good one,” but I doubt that. I really question the hysterical one-star ratings for this blanket, which almost caused me to not purchase it. They are doing Arcturus a big disservice with the ridiculous hysteria. (I am not affiliated with Arcturus, I am just a normal customer.) If one has a wool allergy of course this will not be a good buy for you, but your allergy or over-sensitive nose is not a reason to give a one-star rating. The blanket is medium heavy (4.5 pounds advertised) and very warm. It feels hefty and and comforting without pinning you down with sheer weight. Normal and typical “wool scratchy,” which is not scratchy but rough compared to fabrics like cotton. Again, not abnormal. The edges are bound with quality stitching. I like this blanket so much I that have recommended it to family members, and the $45 price makes this a great value. This blanket is going to live in the back seat of my pickup as a passenger comfort blanket / survival blanket.

Great value for great blanket
This blanket is a perfect size to use around the house, in the car, camping, wherever. It’s big enough for one person to wrap up completely or two people to share over top. It has a good feel, nice and soft and heavy. When I first opened the package it did have a very strong diesel-like aroma. I know that’s just the strong smell of lanolin and how my nose interprets it, but it is pretty powerful. After a gentle wash, the smell was mostly gone and it now just smells like a wool blanket. The color is a rich burnt orange that I love (less bright/vibrant than the pictures in the listing). This is not a $500 artisanal wool blanket but for the price you’re getting a great wool blanket for a good value. I’ve seen some “wool” blankets in stores that are 90+ percent synthetic with some tiny fraction of wool for the same price or even more. This is the way to go. I’m ordering another one in a different color based on my experience so far. By the time I’m done I’ll probably have one for everyone in the family.

Nice big size, super warm and well made
I got this as a car blanket, but it failed me. It’s just too darn nice and such a big useful size I can’t just put it in my car! It’s in my house where it belongs, but now I need to find a smaller car blanket dangit!Seriously though, this is a really nice blanket. Nice and heavy and super warm, but not super huge. Totally amazed me at this price too.If it were a foot wider it’d make a Perfect mid-layer bed blanket. I still use it as that sometimes, just put it in the middle where we tend to cuddle on cold nights. It’s super long, is really best for a one person blanket in the cold.

So far so good. It does keep me warm because I will wake up with the blanket off to the side!I do wish there was at least another 12” to the width.Overall, no complaints. Oh yeah, it does not smell like most wool blankets

This Arcturus Military Wool Blanket is incredibly warm and well-made. The thickness and quality are exactly what you’d expect from a military-style wool blanket. It’s perfect for cold nights camping or as an extra layer at home during winter. The warmth-to-weight ratio is excellent.The blanket is indeed washable, but be mindful of how to wash wool properly. I learned this the hard way—there was a lot of shedding after my first wash. Use cold water, gentle cycle, and wool-safe detergent. Don’t use hot water or regular detergent like you would with cotton. Follow proper wool care instructions and you’ll be fine.Despite the shedding issue from my washing mistake, the blanket is still in great shape and performs beautifully. The material is durable and has that classic wool feel. It’s substantial without being excessively heavy.This is a legitimate cold-weather blanket that actually keeps you warm. Whether for camping, emergency preparedness, or just staying cozy, it delivers. Just respect the wool and wash it correctly!Very warm, very durable, very satisfied. Highly recommend!
