simple to use, blade is sharp, cutting is smooth, cutting is neat, convenient to do crafts
The 40-inch compact Elite mat cutter is great. I use it for children’s crafts, and they love it. It works great for cutting paper and photos. The blade is sharp and smooth, making it perfect for home use. This high-precision mat cutter features a steel blade and a metal base, ensuring smooth and accurate cuts. I could easily cut 10 A4 sheets in a row. It’s easy to use, and the blade is sharp. No more unsightly zigzags and bends from scissors. It also comes with four blades, large enough for horizontal cuts up to A3, which is what I wanted. It also has clear markings, a pressure plate, and spare blades. The blade is sharp, and the cuts are neat. I was able to cut A4 sheets very smoothly. There was a slight delay with jammed paper, but the cuts were still very clean. I’m very satisfied.

Great quality – But no blades and no reference in the manual on what kind it uses
I can only give this four stars because this does not include any razor blades, and the manual has no documentation as to what kind you need to buy to use it. The manual clearly states that no blades are included in their list of parts that comes with this product, but yet the product page on Amazon says in a few places that it comes with blades. I have about half a dozen different types of blades, and none of them fits this product. So without blades, this is kind of useless. I’m sure I will eventually be able to find some that will fit, but I would think they would do a better job with including such a vital component.I do find that this is otherwise well made, with good attention to the functionality through simplicity. A few things that looks like they are designed well, is the fact that this can accommodate mats and boards of various thicknesses, and even a couple of layers of mats too. The rail system is attached to the base board via hinges that allows for various thicknesses of the mats since the rails rests on top of your stock. I also like how the cutters ride on the rail by a simple nylon slot on the cutters, which makes it fast and easy to position and remove the cutters as your making your layered cuts and also the inside cuts too. This mat cutter also has an ingenious parallelogram based back-stop for setting the depth of the mat so it remains parallel to the main cutting rail. The back-stop rides in slots that are positioned at 45 degrees from the main rail, which appears like it prevents it from getting out of alignment. The base for this mat cutter is made from a composite wood based material, with a laminate top. Like most kinds of lower-grade laminate, it’s showing signs of spaulding and chipping along the edges. These defects in the surface are not that large, but they are an indicator that the surface of the main board needs to be treated carefully or more chipping can occur. The manual states in a few places, that when cutting the beveled edge, that you must place a mat under your work piece to prevent the mat from being torn or having rough cuts. Without that extra protective mat, which makes a lot of sense to use with the beveled cuts, the blades will also cut in to the laminated surface of the main base. The manual does not clearly state what kind of scrap mat to use, but I would have to say it should be at least thick enough to safely take the tip of the blade, without risking of the depth of the cut reaching the laminate surface of the base. So scrap mats would be good, but even a few sheets of heavy stock paper may not be thick enough.Overall, this does appear to be very well made, and it looks like there has been a lot of consideration in how everything works well together. I’m needing to try to find some blades that will work with this, so that way I can see how well it handles the beveled inner cuts.

So exciting! This is very nice.
$139.99 when ordered. $139.99 now.Wow! I have no idea where I’m going to put this. I do not have space in my studio for it. But that is okay I will make room. This came shipped in its own box inside an Amazon box. When I opened the Amazon box and saw the Box that it comes in I thought oh this is going to be broke because the Box was in bad shape. But it is not this is in good shape everything is level and square and really nice. I have only test cut a small piece of mat board because I still don’t know what I’m doing really, but it comes with instructions and I will learn. It cut very smooth. I don’t feel that I am qualified enough to really be commenting on this. I’ve always had someone else cut my mats when I needed them. However, it would be really nice to be able to do my own. And a lot more affordable. But if it cuts mat board so nicely, and I used a thick mat board, it makes me wonder if I can cut chipboard with it too really nicely. I’m going to have to look that up. It is heavy duty the surface is nice and smooth with the laminate the steel pieces are all very straight. It comes with the blades. I don’t know what else to say other than I’m excited to get to know it more. As one might imagine. It looks like it will be easy to adjust. And I will end this with how I started it— wow!

Absolute pro quality!
I haven’t used a mat cutter since college, and I’ve missed them. I sell art professionally and I haven’t been able to mat stuff well in years! This offers everything that the really great mat cutters in the art labs did.Mostly, I’m using this to cut chipboard, which I paint and draw on, but it’s such a massive pain to cut. And I mean that physically; it hurts your hands and no normal wimpy paper cutter can really get through chipboard. This fixes that! And if you want to cut clean mats, you can do that too.Weighty enough to stay in place… but you’re going to need a LOT OF SPACE! This is probably bigger than you expect. Everything feels very solid; this feels like a tool you’ll be using for the rest of your creative life.
