Works nicely as a secondary cutting surface
Stained glass is a hobby of mine. I’ve got a plastic grid system that I use, but sometimes that space is full and I need a small surface to cut a single piece of glass on. This looked like a good solution to that issue. The cutting mat I chose has the large and small squares. The small squares work ideally for tiny pieces of glass that are impossible to cut on the larger squares – this will keep me from having to cut them on a wooden board. The mat itself is made of bamboo and seems well put together. The plastic grids are removable for ease of cleaning. It is lightweight and easily movable. I found it worked really well to cut tiny pieces – better than expected. The larger grid section worked well on larger pieces, but it had a little give to it when cutting smaller (not tiny) pieces. I think that this is because there is a gap between the edge of the board and the underside of the board. I think I’m going to find a piece of wood and glue it to the underside to close the gap so it is flush with the work surface which will provide additional support. However, it’s probably not necessary – I’m just pretty particular with my tools. With all that said, I really like this cutting mat – especially the small squares and it’s going to serve me well as a secondary cutting surface.

Nice alternative to using silicone mats
My wife’s been getting into stained glass lately. She’s been using a silicone mat on her craft table for a lot of the scoring and snapping of glass. It works OK but after a number of cuts the mat gets covered in tiny little slivers of glass. They’re also difficult to fully remove as they almost stick to the silicone. Then I saw this wooden tray style and it makes a lot of sense. All those little pieces collect in the pockets. So in that sense it works as designed but there seems to be a trade off. I don’t know if all of these mats similar to this are like this but there is a void on the backside just like the front. Almost like you could put another wafer insert in there. The problem we’ve found is when you press on the glass to score it the center of the tray flexes down. It’s not broken for sure but detracts from the stability when scoring. I need to find something that fits snugly back there to prevent the flex and I think it’ll work perfect. For the time being it does make the ability to remove the grating makes cleaning up and cutting much easier. With as inexpensive as these are and a good size I’m not sure why we didn’t get one sooner.

Very convenient smaller-sized glass cutting grids and tray
I ordered the glass cutting mat with two sizes of grids. The smaller grid works extremely well for cutting those tiny pieces of stained glass that get wedged in or fall through larger cutting grids. The larger grid works well for every other size piece that fits within the 17″x12″ frame. Larger pieces of glass can also be cut by removing the grids from the bamboo catch-tray. Using the grids inside the framed catch-tray does corral a lot of those pesky tiny glass shards that tend to bounce around everywhere when glass is scored and snapped. The grids are raised up off the catch-tray on tiny little feet, and the tray is deep enough to collect the wayward shards from multiple pieces of cut glass. The grid openings allow the shards to fall through and collect in the tray so the scoring surface remains clean, smooth, and flat, which helps to avoid errant score lines and breaks running their own direction due to a bumby lumpy scoring surface. Even if a Morton system is already part of one’s glass crafting arsenal, the size of this conveniently sized cutting mat set with small and medium grids and catch-tray is a worthwhile minimal expense that expands a stained glass artist’s ability to get more projects finished without always needing to bring out the heavy equipment. Anyway, you can never have too many stained glass tools!!!

The set does what it says it does
I ordered this cutting mat for my wife. Here are her comments.I work in a glass fusing studio. We have a large system for cutting down the full size sheets, but most of the smaller work we do is on simple plastic mats. This makes cutting and shaping class much easier. The 3/8″ grid systems supports the glass well, while the tray collects the tiny bits that come off. The set does what it says it does. I was a little worried there would be too much “flex” in the mat that would cause the glass to break apart while I was scoring. but has not been a problem at all. Overall a nice upgrade.

Wonderful product
This glass cutting board is made from very high-quality wood. It is very easy and simple to use, and I love how the bottom of the tray catches all the bits and pieces of cut glass. This is the perfect size glass cutting mat, this makes the use of cutting glass very simple and easy to clean up. The open space on the top of the cutting mat gives you easy cutting ability to cut your glass. Wonderful value for the money. You can’t go wrong with buying this item if you work with glass.

Good for glass cutting
This stained glass cutting mat is just what my husband needed for his stained glass. He had learned in a class where all the tools were provided, but now is starting to get what he needs to do it outside of class. This mat comes with a tray and a grid mat that is just what you need to safely cut glass without damaging the tray, your cutting tool or the glass itself. The mat thickness is adequate for what you need, and it protects the tray and glass while cutting. The set is easy to use right out of the box, and because you get both in one it is a decent value.Overall, I am pleased with this mat and the quality of the both the tray and mat. It gives my husband the right surface for cutting glass for his projects. (that being said, open it outside, and let it air for a bit. For some reason its pretty strong smelling when you take it out of the package)
