Macrame for Home Decor is a tutorial crafting guide for home dec macramé by Samantha Grenier. Released 11th June 2019 by Pepperell Braiding Co. and Fox Chapel, it’s 144 pages and available in paperback format.This is an appealing and well written tutorial for learning the skills necessary to complete any of the 40 included projects. The introduction and basic tools and materials guides (~18% of the page content) cover sourcing supplies and learning the basics of macramé. The following chapters are split into project categories and include: home decor, mats and rugs, plant hangers, and decorative wall hangings.For anyone who lived through the 70’s and for whom the word macramé summons to mind ‘rustic’ jute plant hangers in lime green, orange, and russet brown, this book is full of completely updated and modern/neutral color schemes and projects which will look good in modern homes. It includes large projects such as chair backs and room dividers, along with smaller projects such as placemats and coasters.The layout and typesetting are appealing and accessible. The instructions are very clearly written and easy to follow and, more importantly for visual learners, very well photographed. The weaving and knotting diagrams are well drawn and simple to follow. Of the 40 projects, probably half of them really appealed to me and that’s unusually high. These are nice projects and can be adapted to suit any decor. Each of the projects includes a difficulty level, a project time estimate, a bullet list of supplies, and step by step directions.The end of the book includes a very short supplies resource list, and readers will also have no trouble sourcing necessary tools and gear via internet e-tailers or local crafts/hobby suppliers.It amused me to see that although the book is well updated for modern readers, it does include an homage to 70s culture, the perennially undying macrame owl.Four stars. Great Projects, Easy to Follow
Macrame for Home Décor is truly a book with 40 Stunning Projects for Stylish Decorating by Samantha Grenier and Pepperell Braiding Company. From projects that are simple such as the plant hangers to the more elaborate comfy chair, there is something for everyone. It gave clear directions that were simple to follow so that the project I tried turned out wonderful.I like the colored photographs and the detail description of the supplies that could be used. Also the knotty level guide was helpful. But the very best was the knot illustrations that had different colors for the different threads. Perhaps that is common but I had not seen that in directions on sites such as Pinterest. It made keeping the knot simple and easy to follow.While I loved the chair, I may never try that one but the plant hangers especially the air plant hanger was fun and easy to do with the right materials. I thought the different owls for wall hangings looked as if older children would enjoy doing too.The publisher through Net Galley provided an ARC. I have voluntarily decided to read and review, giving my personal opinions and thoughts.

Fun and easy projects
There are a ton of projects in this book I’d like to make (the Giant Dreams dreamcatcher for example) but I started with Double Herb Holder for a pair of small succulents. I didn’t want it as long as written in the book but it was very easy to modify.The book is chock full of information and I think it would be a good start for any beginner as all the knots are explained step by step and ILLUSTRATED for those of us who need a visual aid. Everything was clear, well-organized, attractively laid out, and explained clearly step by step.It’s also really neat that so many of these projects are “multimedia” as in you can make them with more than just macrame cord (since it’s still pretty hard to find at the big craft stores). I used parachute cord for the hanger and thin cotton cord for the decorative parts. The mix of materials really adds variety to the look.
